The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

It's the Law!

As any educational institution, Ithaca College is required to comply with the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (F.E.R.P.A.). Each Office Assistant must read and be acquainted with how F.E.R.P.A. relates to student information before responding to any call or visitor to the Office of Residential Life.

To be fully apprised of how Ithaca College student information needs to be protected - what type of student information can be disclosed and to whom - carefully read each of the subsections under the F.E.R.P.A. heading in the adjacent column. There is also a copy of the F.E.R.P.A. brochure in the office that will be made available for your perusal on request.

If you are ever unsure that information should be disclosed, ask your supervisor or a member of our staff for guidance. If you are remain unsure, simply take the caller's name and number for the call to be returned.
