Every year the Service Saturdays Program offers Ithaca College students a unique opportunity to serve Ithaca and Tompkins County with passion and energy. Through partnerships with more than twenty different service-based organizations, IC students consistently offer more than 1,700 total hours of service annually on a variety of projects, from working in organic gardens to assisting with prisoner education programs. By developing new, "place-based" knowledge through service experience, Ithaca College students can more thoroughly scrutinize their academic foundation, and grow as community-minded scholars. At the end of each academic year, one volunteer is honored as the Service Saturday Volunteer of the Year. The recipient of the award must participate in at least 50% of the events while displaying team-based leadership skills and enthusiasm for community service.
For each service date, we:
1. Provide all necessary transportation
2. Provide on-site supervision
3. Do giveaways and raffles
4. Do volunteer placement
By participating in Service Saturdays, volunteers will identify and articulate at least one challenge or need existing in Tompkins County. In addition, through their participation in the program, volunteers will articulate the goals of at least one community organization in Tompkins County.
