About Intramurals

The intramural program at Ithaca College has significantly grown over the past four years, with womens participation increasing by 46% since 05-06 and for the second year in a row there were over 1,000 male participants between the four classes.?? This extracurricular program serves approximately 25% of the undergraduate population yearly.? Fourteen traditional team activities are offered throughout the year and include: basketball, flag football, kickball, soccer, softball, ultimate and volleyball.

During the past two years, there has been a record number of teams and participants.? However, it is anticipated this year there will be new records established for almost every activity with the size of the incoming class.? This year for all intramural activities you will enter on-line.?? Teams must have their on-line entry submitted, by the entry deadline date and time along with their forfeit bond submitted to the intramural office, if they want to have a chance to play the activity. ??

Our Format

For most activities divisions are offered for mens, womens and co-recreational teams.? Throughout the year usually two or more activities run concurrently and participants are able to play on a single sex team and co-rec team for each activity.

This year all intramural fliers will list the maximum number of teams which can be accommodated and the number of teams which will be accepted in each division.? Once the division is filled teams will be waitlisted. Any division which does not completely fill then other teams will be added based on the teams remaining on the wait list.? Due to the size of the incoming class it is strongly recommended teams get their entries submitted prior to the deadline to ensure they will have the opportunity to participate in the league.

The format for most team activities is a round robin schedule of 5 games followed by a single elimination tournament.? Every team makes the playoffs unless they forfeit a game.

In addition to the team activities there are also individual activities and special events.

Facilities

Indoor intramural activities are played in Hill Center and the Fitness Center Monday Thursday nights anytime from 7pm 1am, Friday 7pm-10pm, Saturday 2pm-9pm and on Sunday from 2pm 1am.? This is dependent on the intramural activities and semester. ?

Outdoor intramural activities are played anytime from 4pm until dark on weekdays and 11am until dark on weekends on the Allen Fields, Emerson or Yavits Extension Field.? The exception to this is the Labor Day Weekend Sand Volleyball Tournament which begins at 2pm Friday, 10am Saturday and at 9:15am Sunday and Monday.

Intramurals are popular!

The last two years, annually there have been over three hundred intramural teams and over three thousand intramural participations.?? The most popular activities recently have been 5-on-5 basketball with over forty teams entered the past three years, indoor flag football with over thirty teams the past two years, and in 08-09 new records for total teams were established for 4 person and 6 person volleyball and 3-on-3 basketball. There were 42, 36 and 36 teams for each of these activities.? A record number of participants were involved in the three activities listed above and in 5-on-5 basketball.

The last two years there have been over 1,500 individual intramural participants and many have participated in multiple activities.? In 07-08 730 individuals played in two up to fifteen activities and this increased to 810 in 08-09.
