Update on Suspicious Fires Investigation

The Office of Public Safety, in coordination with local and state fire and law enforcement officials, continues to investigate a series of suspicious fires occurring on the campus dating back to last October. All agencies are working collaboratively to determine the cause and origin of these fires and to identify the person or persons responsible. 

The following cases are currently open and under active investigation.

The Office of Public Safety is asking for the assistance of the public in the investigation of these fires, which pose a danger to the campus community.  Anyone with information pertaining to these incidents is strongly encouraged to contact any of the following agencies.

Members of the campus community are reminded to immediately report unusual or suspicious persons or activity by calling the Office of Public Safety at 607-274-3333 or dialing 911.

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], otherwise known as the “Clery Act,” the College is required to provide the campus community timely warning of certain crimes and other conditions that pose a serious or ongoing threat to life and safety. The College meets this notification requirement through the issuance of a “Public Safety Alert” intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and provide cautionary measures for the campus community. Clery crimes are as follows: aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), motor vehicle theft, and hate crimes (in accordance with Clery reporting categories for prejudice).
