Smart Practice: Creative Practice Techniques for String Players

Teaching ourselves and our students how to practice is an important responsibility. Barbara Barber will explore the purpose of practice and ways to make it more efficient and interesting. Teachers will experiment with dozens of practice techniques from the Suzuki Violin School and supplementary literature. Also included will be the practice of scales, arpeggios, and double-stops. Teachers should have completed SAA training in Suzuki violin or viola, Books 1-4. Bring all Suzuki books and, if already owned, Barbara Barber’s Solos for Young Violinists and Scales for Advanced Violinists. Violists, please bring a violin. Cellists may audit this course. All teachers can register this with SAA as a 15-hour SAA enrichment course.
