Transfer Students

Reading Initiative

book

The First-Year Reading Initiative introduces students to the community of learners that is Ithaca College. It brings together faculty, staff, and new students to consider an important issue outside of the constraints of the classroom and suggests the value of life-long and independent learning. It also emphasizes the academic nature of the Ithaca community by offering the incoming class a shared academic experience prior to the start of classes. It is hoped that the themes raised by the text will serve as a catalyst for discussion in the residence halls, the cafeterias, and other informal gathering places.  First-year students will see a panel presentation on the book and then participate in small group discussions with other IC students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, August 25th beginning at 9am in the Ben Light Gymnasium.
