In Spring 2004, Sustainable Tompkins undertook a major study initiative.

A number of committee volunteers stepped forward, leading to the formation of the Sustainable Tompkins Coordinating Council, and the establishment of a number of project teams, each one focused on advancing aspects of regional sustainable community development.
