Study Circles
The process of engagement outlined in the Spring 2004 study used a series of five study circles.
Each circle group met three times, once every two weeks, and was composed of 15-20 representatives from across the sectors in the regional community.
Each member of a study circle is provided with a tailored reading list, so all participants have the opportunity for a shared base of information from which to discuss issues.
All the study circle members came together at the end of April 2004 for a study circle summit meeting, where tangible projects proposed by each circle group were shared and discussed.
At that summit, a call to action was issued and eager volunteers "voted with their feet," standing in front of each project proposal presentation and committing to work with other volunteers to bring that proposed project to fruition.
A number of project teams arose from that initial meeting, and these groups continue to make progress toward making Tompkins County a sustainable community.Study Circle Topics and Objectives
