Staff Council Staff Appreciation Survey Results
At the 2011 Staff Council Retreat, there were four break out groups, one of which discussed ideas on how to recognize and appreciate staff. This topic was motivated by an informal survey (which was in response to an independent survey given to Ithaca College staff) given at an All College meeting. It was decided during the break out discussion that we needed to form an ad-hoc sub-committee in order to discuss and research this concept for the purpose of presenting a recommendation to Human Resources.
For the 2011-2012 academic year, during the sub-committee meetings, we have reviewed the informal survey results. We have met with Human Resource colleagues to discuss past programs and various ways to show appreciation. We reached out to contacts at other higher education institutions and conducted online research.
As we reviewed what recognition programs other colleges provide, it became apparent that Ithaca College has a very robust appreciation and recognition program. Most institutions had one to three programs, whereas Ithaca College engages in most of the programs implemented elsewhere.
Further discussions revealed that we did not have enough feedback from staff in order to be able to make a recommendation. At that point, we initiated the task of creating our own Staff Recognition Survey. We also engaged the services of a colleague in the Institutional Research group to provide expertise in the compilation and distribution of surveys. This Staff Recognition survey was dispatched, the results compiled and the comments summarized.
