Community Invited to Ithaca College Veterans Day Celebration
ITHACA, NY — Members of the community are invited to join in honoring our nation’s veterans at Ithaca College’s Ninth Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 10. The one-hour program begins at noon in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center.
The ceremony will feature a welcome by Carl Sgrecci, vice president for finance and administration, and musical performances by the Ithaca College Brass Choir and IC VoICes. LeBron Rankins, staff psychologist in the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, will deliver the keynote address.
Rankins joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving as a dental specialist on active duty for eight years and in the reserves for two years, rising to the rank of sergeant. His responsibilities included providing direct care to military personnel and their dependents, managing dental facilities and training enlisted personnel. Rankins held assignments at bases in five states as well as in Germany and the Netherlands and served in the Sinai Peninsula as a member of the Multinational Peacekeeping and Observers Force.
After leaving the military, Rankins earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Central State University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Kent State. At Ithaca College he provides clinical services to students and coordinates the Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program.
On display at the event will be a set of red, white, and blue pillowcases that were sewn by a group of faculty, staff, students and Longview residents. The pillowcases will be shipped to military members serving overseas.
The celebration is sponsored by the IC Veterans Day Committee, School of Music and Division of Finance and Administration. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/veterans or contact committee cochair Jane Ray at firstname.lastname@example.org or 607-274-5773.
