About STCEE

The Southern Tier (NY) Center for Economic Education (STCEE) is the local node of a vast national economic education network. The National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) is the center of this network. Directly linked to the NCEE are the State Councils which bridge the gap between localized Centers within a state and the national coordinating body of the NCEE. The STCEE is affiliated to the New York State Center for Economic Education (NYSCEE), which in turn, is affiliated to the NCEE.

This all-encompassing network of centers supports the provision of economic education materials, workshops, curricular assistance and links to electronic and printed materials as well as human and other resources. The principal partners of the NCEE, and the network, include:

American Economics Association Committee on Economic Education
Federal Reserve Education
National Association of Economic Educators

National Council for the Social Studies

National Council on Economic Education
Securities Industry Foundation for Economic Education

On April 29, 1999, NCEE with its nationwide Economics America network of affiliated state councils and centers, together with corporate and foundation partners announced a Campaign for Economic Literacy to advance the founding mission of teaching basic economics well in the schools of America. The priority is to establish economic literacy by the effective teaching of high quality, standards-based education. The program also aims to enhance the economic decision-making skills and economic understanding of all students in America.

The STCEE is lucky to have Professor Frank Musgrave as its first director. Dr. Musgrave has been active in economic education for many years. He has conducted workshops for teachers in the Ithaca area and in the local BOCES district for over 20 years under the auspices of the NYSCEE.
