Sword Team of Ithaca College (S.T.o.I.C.)

Practice Times for Fall 2007

STOIC, Ithaca College's own kenjutsu and stage combat club, practices every Monday at 9:30 PM and every Wednesday at 9 PM in the Fitness Center. We will meet in the aerobics room on Mondays and in the wood-floored gym on Wednesdays.

For more information about STOIC, please contact Senpai Christopher Hostage at chostag1@ithaca.edu

Our Mission Statement:
Each culture has invented its own use of the sword. The Sword Team of Ithaca College is a club dedicated to learning about and displaying these different styles of sword play in choreographed dances and free form sparring sessions. The main goal is to research and learn about the art of sword play. SToIC is a non-competitive club for anyone interested in creative dance or dramatic combat. We will accept beginners with no experience to seasoned stage combatants.

The club offers two distinct combatitive displays: free form sparring, using softer foam swords along with head and hand guards for protection, and choreographed sword dances, using replica wooden swords for rehearsed fight routines. No edged or sharply pointed weapons will ever be used in combat by the Sword Team of Ithaca College.

We will be having regular practices with Hufford-sensei and some of the instructors from his dojo on Mondays and Wednesdays. Sunday practices have been temporarily suspended until the end of the semester.
