These self-assessments are designed to help you determine whether or not you have understood the readings as well as enable you to apply what you have learned to situations you may encounter in your life or the lives of friends and family. What are the questions like? Because these self-assessments often require you to make application, the majority are short essay/paragraph-type questions. Below is an example of a self-assessment question:
. This type of format lends itself to application, one of the key objectives of this course. How are they graded? The self-assessments are graded with respect to the content of the response and quality of the response. When completing the questions be sure to read carefully, answer with sufficient detail, and provide examples when requested. Many of the questions, like the sample question above, ask multiple questions and require multiple answers. Be sure to answer all parts of the question in order to receive full credit. Is it okay to use my book? journal? notes? YES, it is. When taking these self-assessments, you may use your text, journal, powerpoint slides, and study guide. BUT, you may not use the assistance of another person in completing this assignment. Nor should you share the questions on the self-assessments with another classmate. Failure to comply with these conditions will result in a grade of F for the self-assessment and referral to the Ithaca College judical system.
