Stress: Its Nature and Management OnLine Course Assignment
Purpose: Relaxation is generally acknowledged as an effective method to manage stress. The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint you with the various forms of relaxation training, and enable you to identify which method you prefer. Assignment: Using the CD provided with your text, try each different relaxation technique, as they are scheduled. There are four different relaxation techniques - visualization, meditation, progressive relaxation, and autogenic training. You will need to set aside a quiet time and find a quiet place to practice each technique. After you finish relaxing, make sure that you are fully aware, awake, and energized before getting up, resuming your activities, or driving. The best time to complete this activity, for many individuals, will be at night. After you have completed each relaxation exercise, complete the relaxation evaluation form. When you have completed all four relaxation practices, identify which technique you preferred and why. Using the information provided in the appropriate chapter in the textbook, write a short paper comparing and contrasting your experiences with each of the four techniques. Then for your preferred approach to relaxation, identify the key concepts related to that specific technique, and the circumstances under which that specific approach to relaxation can most effectively be used.
