International Programs

•        What are the study abroad deposits and how much are they?

Every student studying abroad in a non affiliated program during the academic year pays a $415 study abroad fee. Additionally, students in non-affiliated programs must pay a $400 advance deposit as they are taking a leave of absence. Occasionally, the Office of International Programs will require a $250 deposit for students on an affiliated program.

•        What is the difference between affiliated and non-affiliated international programs?

Affiliated means that there is an agreement between IC and the host institution that the courses taken will transfer to the student’s academic record. Students on an affiliated program usually carry most of their financial aid with them, and do not have to take a leave of absence.  They pay the regular Ithaca College tuition amount, regardless of their program’s tuition cost, and sometimes room or board as well. Payment is made to IC, and International Programs pays the sponsoring institution.  Non-affiliated means that the courses taken must be evaluated by the Registrar’s Office as to what will carry over to the student’s transcript. These students carry only a minimum of aid (if any) with them, and must take a leave of absence for the semester in question. Non affiliated programs require a $415 Study Abroad Fee. Families should pay costs directly to the sponsoring institution. If there is financial aid listed in a consortium agreement, IC will send the money to the host institution when it is received, and after the family or institution forwards a bill to us.
