Rockwell has had a major
impact on the American society in general and he
has also indirectly influenced
the image I hold of many "picture perfect"
events. Rockwell's
illustrations represent the "ideal" of the American
life, and although this
may not always be obtainable, it is nice to have
something to strive towards.
I look at Rockwell for guidance on family
living more than for an
image of what I should ideally be like, as a
female. I believe
that the woman that Rockwell often depicted is no longer
realistic in today's society.
Although much of what the family was built
around was the domestic
mother, I still like to think that the "typical"
American family can sit
down for Thanksgiving dinner at one large table
with smiles on their faces.
I want to be an ideal citizen and I don't
always need to see change,
those are some of the reasons why Rockwell
appeals to me. Sometimes
I do drive myself to perfection because of these
images that have been embedded
in my head, but that is what I want to
strive for.
