Students for a Just Peace is a student organization that was founded to spread the ideals of peace and justice as well as reinvigorate political sanity. SJP’s first goal, that of spreading understanding, is one that it accomplishes through hosting teach-ins from faculty members and members of the outside Ithaca community, lectures by prominent speakers, dinners to celebrate special events and films that shed light on such areas of conflict as Israel/Palestine, Iraq and the Sudan. The groups main focus is on the pressing Israel/Palestine conflict, and was originally formed as a means to understand that specific conflict, but has expanded in recent years to other areas of conflict such as Iraq and the Middle East in general, and has sponsored events that deal with such political arenas as the Darfur genocide in Sudan and the many other U.S. foreign and domestic policy issues that have become a concern to the Ithaca College campus.
