Now that I’ve been out of the house for a while and have experienced a taste of life on my own, I can’t say it; my family is a little crazy. But don’t get me wrong, they are crazy in a good way. All of the moving and shaking that goes on in that house is enough to make anyone a little quirky.
So let’s start at the top. The breadwinner caretaker and general solver of all worldly problems is my mom. I am not really sure how she’s made it all these years without seriously physical health problems, mental health is a whole other thing all together, we certainly didn’t make it easy on her. But in all seriousness my Mom is probably where I get most of my strength from. She is a professor and department head of speech communications at a local community college, where she has worked for my entire life. Before I was in the picture she was an actress, still is in many ways, but I mean theater school, voice lessons, serious acting. She frequently graces the stages of local community theater groups now, but when she met my Dad she was still doing the theater thing.
Dad was a musician, in all aspects of life. He was one of the most dedicated and loyal people I had ever met, spending all of the money he saved from his childhood paper route on a new French horn. He went to New England Conservatory for French Horn performance and met my mom in Boston while playing in the pit of an opera she was singing in. And the rest is history as they say.
Matt, the oldest, is also musically inclined, but who couldn’t be with parents like ours? He finished high school with the reputation of one of the best trumpet players in the school, district etc, and went on to pursue communications at Emerson College. After spending 4 years on air as a DJ for the Jazz Oasis and eventually becoming the coordinator of the show, Matt graduated and moved to New Orleans to work with the Cultural Ambassador of the city.
Kim, Kimmy, Kimberly Sue, Kimo or Pim, as I like to call her, rounds out the end of the family as the youngest. She just started college and also looking to get into the music industry, concentrating on sound recording at the University of New Haven. She has got some big shoes to fill but I don’t doubt for a second that she isn’t up for the challenge.
