ITHACA COLLEGE | Ithaca, New York

The Sustainability Initiative at Ithaca College

"We strive to balance the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental stewardship, social justice, and economic growth and development. Ithaca is developing a “living laboratory” for our students, faculty and staff that models sustainable decision-making in its activities, policies and procedures. “Living what you learn” reinforces the whole-systems thinking we are integrating into our courses and educational programs that seek to raise the consciousness of the campus community and engage it in the process of transformation. "

~ Provost Kathleen Rountree

Curriculum and Research

Ithaca College is an independent, predominantly undergraduate comprehensive college of 6,400 students in the Finger Lakes region of New York, offering a diverse curriculum in over 100 degree programs in humanities and sciences, business, music, health sciences and human performance, and communications. As a founding member of Associated New American Colleges (ANAC), a national consortium of about twenty small and mid-sized institutions, Ithaca is committed to Ernest Boyer’s vision of undergraduate education, one that combines liberal and professional studies with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and civic engagement.

Our College Mission states:

To provide a foundation for a lifetime of learning, Ithaca College is dedicated to fostering intellectual growth, aesthetic appreciation, and character development in our students. The Ithaca College community thrives on the principles that knowledge is acquired through discipline, competence is established when knowledge is tempered by experience, and character is developed when competence is exercised for the benefit of others.
