Ithaca's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program matches students with clients in the community.

The trading room, while exciting, is not the only opportunity Ithaca students have for hands-on business experience. Working in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program matches students with clients in the community. With faculty supervision and the latest accounting software, students help local residents prepare hundreds of tax returns annually, saving them tens of thousands of dollars in tax preparation fees.

The College also runs a low-income taxpayer clinic, where students help taxpayers in their disputes and correspondence with the IRS. For the city of Ithaca's sizable population of non-native English speakers, the clinic also provides information about taxation rights and responsibilities.
