Focus on Assistive Technology Lab
Working in the assistive technology lab
The assistive technology lab is a unique learning environment where students, faculty, and staff explore technological adaptations that help people accomplish tasks that would otherwise be impossible for them. All the devices in the lab are designed to allow persons with learning disabilities, sensory impairments, or movement deficits to engage successfully in work, play, and self-care activities.
The lab supports teaching in a variety of courses in the occupational therapy curriculum, but it is also ideal for interdisciplinary learning. Faculty in the Departments of Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology use the lab extensively in the interdisciplinary Assistive Technology course.
