Roy L. Barriere

Roy voluntarily joined the US Army immediately after graduating from high school. He served 4 years as a Veterinary Technician at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he and his wife moved to Ithaca and joined the US Army Reserves. He served in a variety of positions, starting out as a Chaplain’s Assistant, then as a Supply Sergeant, and finishing off his military career as a Combat Engineer Trainer.
While pursuing his military career as a Combat Engineer, he received his certification as a Drill Instructor. He was a Drill Instructor for approximately 7 years before being promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. Roy continued to serve as the 1SG of a Combat Engineer Training Company for about 5 years.
His military decorations include the Drill Sergeant Badge, 4 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, 3 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, the National Defense Ribbon, 3 Army NCO Development Ribbons, and the Army Service Ribbon.
While serving in the Reserves, Roy was employed at Cornell University as a Facility Manager at the NYS College of Veterinary Medicine. He retired from the military in 1994 and from Cornell in 2010. He is currently serving as the Town Supervisor for the Town of Enfield and working part time as a Cornell Police Auxiliary member.
