Attendance Policy

Student illness or family emergency are the only acceptable reasons for absence. Ithaca College does not allow time off for personal reasons or for employment interviews. If a student is unable to report to the clinical site due to illness or family emergency, the student is responsible to notify the Clinical Instructor (or Center Coordinator of Clinical Education) and the Ithaca College DCE/ADCE before the start of the work day of the absence and reason for the absence.

In an 8 week Clinical Education Course, a student may not be absent more than 2 days.  In a 12 week Clinical Education Course, a student may not be absent more than 3 days. Within these time frames, make up will be at the discretion of the CI and DCE/ADCE.

Absences of more than 3 days require that a physician note be submitted to the CI and DCE/ADCE and make up of the time missed.  Extended absences may require termination or extension of the course.

Bereavement: A student is allowed up to 3 days off for bereavement in the loss of an immediate family member. The CI and DCE/ADCE must be notified, and the need to make up the days will be determined based on individual circumstances.

Holidays: The student is expected to follow the same schedule as the clinical instructor.  No additional days off will be allowed for travel to/from holiday events.
