Katharyn Howd Machan, full professor in the Department of Writing at Ithaca College, is the author of 30 published collections of poems, including Redwing: Voices from 1888 and When She’s Asked to Think of Colors, winner of Palettes & Quills’ first national competition. Her poems have appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies, and textbooks, including The Bedford Introduction to Literature, Sound and Sense, Poetry: An Introduction, and Stand Up Poetry. A longtime Ithacan, she was named Tompkins County’s first Poet Laureate in 2002.
