Admission, Eligibility & Cost
Current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply to the Ithaca Writers Institute.
Applications are now closed.
To apply, please complete the online application and then email a writing sample in the genre of your choice to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, address, and email on your writing sample and attach it in .pdf or .doc format. In the body of the email, specify the genre(s) in which you are applying. You may apply in two genres, but you will only be accepted into one. Please send all writing samples in a single email.
- For Poetry, send 3–5 poems totaling no more than 10 pages.
- For Prose (Fiction or Personal Essay), send 5–10 pages, double-spaced.
There is no application fee. Early application is recommended. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2016. (After May 15, applications will be accepted on a space available basis only.) Online applications will not be considered complete until writing samples have been received.
For accepted students, payment of the program fee is due in full by June 1.
Tuition for the 2016 Ithaca Writers Institute is $2,280. This fee includes room and board in an Ithaca College residence hall, a campus meal plan, and all required activities.
Commuter rate: $2,050. This rate includes lunch and dinner. (Because program activities continue into the evening, meal plans are required for commuter students.)
Payment is due in full by June 1.
A limited number of need-based, partial scholarships are available for U.S. residents. We're sorry, but financial aid is unavailable for international students. The Financial Aid Request Form should be downloaded and submitted at the time of application. Requests for aid must be postmarked by April 15 to be considered.
