|WRITING CHILDREN'S LITERATURE|
This class is a spin on our traditional Writing Children's Literature class, which introduces students to the skills necessary for writing short stories, nonfiction articles, chapter books, and novels for children and young adults. Students will learn about children's publishing, have some fun with images, and abridge their own favorite books.
Jack Wang is the chair of the Department of Writing, where he specializes in fiction workshops. He holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Arizona and a Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Florida State University. With his twin brother Holman, he is the co-creator of Cozy Classics, a children's book series that abridges classic novels into twelve-word editions illustrated with needle-felted figures. The series includes Huckleberry Finn, Oliver Twist, War & Peace, Pride and Prejudice, and Moby Dick. Next year he'll be spending his sabbatical at the University of East Anglia, where he received the David T.K. Wong Fellowship for his fiction.
