Figure skating wasn't always his first choice. Evan Lysacek was given his first pair of skates from his grandmother at the age of eight. Evan wanted to be a hockey player, but first had to learn how to skate. It was during those lessons that he became hooked on figure skating. Always obsessed with the Olympics, Evan remembers the 1992 Winter Games, the drama of the 1994 Games, and Atlanta in 1996, but the best Olympics had to be 2002. He was one of the few invited to carry the torch in the 2002 Torch Relay for the Salt Lake City Games.
In his short career, Evan has earned many accomplishments. He is a two-time World Figure Skating Championship bronze medalist, 2006 US Figure Skating Championship silver medalist, and was the figure skating nominee for the 2005 SportsMan of the Year from the US Olympic Committee. Evan overcame a hip fracture to earn a bronze medal at Worlds in 2005.
The debut in Torino was just the culmination of a very accomplishing but obstacle-filled
career for this Olympic-obsessed skater. Evan changed his free program from "Grease" to a
more traditional "Carmen" when it wasn't well received after performing it at
Skate America in October 2005.
He also overcame the flu and being hooked up to IV's after his short program, to skate a magnificent
free skate and finish fourth in Torino.

After the Olympics, Evan was chosen to be part of the 2006 Champions on Ice Tour and is currently touring across
the US until August 16, 2006. His program includes songs from Johnny Cash, Chris Brown, and Elvis Presley.
Evan hopes to pursue a film degree from UCLA or pursue a degree in International Business from Harvard's Business School |
