Sports are my passion. I always dreamed of being a professional athlete. When I realized those ambitions were no longer realistic, I decided to pursue a career in a field where I could cover sports on a daily basis. I always enjoyed watching games on television, so I figured I'd like to work in sports television. I would love to work for a sports cable channel like ESPN or NESN or work for a local network affiliate within the sports department.
I played baseball throughout high school and played hockey during my sophomore year. I gave up playing hockey so I could broadcast the hockey games on my community television station, Goffstown Community Television (GTV) in my hometown of Goffstown, NH. The station was based out of my high school, Goffstown High School, so I spent time after school shooting various games and editing highlights. During my senior year, I developed my own sports show as part of an independent study.
The Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College piqued my interest during my college search. I loved the campus and the college-town atmosphere. I was also interested in sports management and athletic training and Ithaca offered both. I applied early decision to Ithaca and received my acceptance during Thanksgiving in 2001.
I enrolled in fall 2002 and now have three weeks left until I graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Television/Radio with a concentration in advertising and public relations. I have a minor in journalism. I have gained my television and radio production experience through my involvement with Ithaca College Television (ICTV) and our two radio stations, 92WICB and 106VIC. I have also taken part in several internships while studying abroad at the Ithaca College London Center and at the Ithaca College Communications Program in Los Angeles.
After graduation in May, I am considering working in London for six months through the "Work in Britain" BUNAC program. I would like to work at a media related company to gain more experience while still having the opportunity to live in a foreign city and travel throughout Europe.
