Young people, including athletes, interns, and volunteers enjoyed many activities in Torino during the night time hours. Visiting team houses and visiting local resturants and bars were popular activities. You could often spot many of Torino's younger visitors dancing the night away or just relaxing with friends.

Holland House

The Holland Heineken House was the place to go in Torino during the 2006 Winter Olympics. Even early into the Games the Holland House drew huge crowds and had to turn away eager visitors. Located at the Centro Universitario Sportive on Via M. Panetti 30, the house is a short drive from Palavela, the figure skating and short track venue, the International Broadcast Center and Oval Lingotto, home of speed skating.

At the entrance of the house there was an area to check bags and inside there was a metal detector. The Dutch were not going to take any chances with security. Everyone entering the house also received a wristband. The house was well organized. An interactive information center, coat check, and kiosk distributing debit-like cards that were used as the currency of the house were located as soon as you passed through the metal detectors.

Further in was an ice skating rink flanked by food courts on both sides and a restaurant overlooking the rink. The ice skating rink attracted much attention and patrons were able to rent skates (orange of course) for three Euro. The rest of the house included a huge stage where live acts performed nightly and a large dance floor.

The atmosphere of the house was indescribable. The Dutch are really supportive of their teams and donned tons of orange apparel. Food was not too expensive and the Heineken was flowing. The live bands that played were great as they performed a mix of Dutch songs as well as classic American songs, but then threw in some songs Americans would cringe at when played at home. So at the next Olympics, find that lovely orange apparel and head over to the Holland House - guaranteed to be one of the hottest night life spots.
