Introduction: How it all began
My name is Sona, and I am a 20-year-old junior at Ithaca College, majoring in Television/Radio
with a concentration in video production. I have been interested in TV production and the entertainment
business ever since I was a little kid. Before I could write, I used to make my mom write
down plays that I would come up with.
When I was 13, my mom let me borrow the video camera so my friends and
I could make movies. We would parody something like the Blair Witch Project.
My favorite movie we parodied was Star Wars, complete with light saber battle at the end.
I was also a competitive dancer for 15 years. Every weekend, I would travel around the Northeast
and compete in dance competitions. I did everything: tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, etc. Tap was my
favorite and by far what I was best at. It was a huge part of my life for a long time. I cut back
quite extensively when I came to college, in an effort to make more time for TV stuff.
I'm very passionate about movies and television. My favorite TV shows are "Lost" and "24".
"My Name is Earl" and "The Office" are slowly moving up my list of favorites as well.
I am a bi-weekly movie reviewer for the long running Ithaca College Television (ICTV) show The Screening Room".
My job on this show basically consists of seeing three movies each week then discussing
them for about a half hour. Itıs a pretty sweet gig.
Sona at the Olympics
I love to travel. I've spent a semester in Australia, back-packed through India, driven cross
country, and most recently spent two months in Italy. This last opportunity I can attribute to NBC,
as they picked me to be one of their interns after an interview that took place in the spring semester
of 2005. Before I arrived in Torino, I spent about a month traveling around Italy, hitting up Venice,
Florence and Rome. While in Torino, I was a tape-logger in Control C, which meant I got to watch
basically every sporting event as it happened, and that was really cool. My favorite event of the
Games, by far, was short track speed skating. I was lucky enough to attend the last night
of short track in Torino for the Men's 500m, Women's 1000m, and the Men's 5000m Relay final. That was my
favorite moment in Torino and something I'll never forget. When I'm old and gray, I'll be describing
to my grandkids how I watched Apolo Anton Ohno win a gold medal while surrounded by Canadians and Italians who were not NEARLY as excited as I was (and I couldn't really blame them).
The Future...
I will receive my Bachelor Science degree in Television/Radio in May 2007. I have made
the Dean's list three times, once at Emerson College before I transfered during my freshman year, and twice here in Ithaca.
I hope to some day have a job in field-based television.
