Associate Professor John Scott, the degree program director for the Documentary Studies & Production degree, is an award-winning director whose works tends to start with a documentary approach but then borrows from other genres like fictional re-enactment. His short film Notes on Liberty toured embassy events worldwide with the American Documentary Showcase (now called American Film Showcase) and his feature-length independent documentary Scouts are Cancelled debuted at the Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival, was reviewed positively in national presses and was broadcast numerous times on The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC) Documentary. He is currently working on a film about the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Elizabeth Bishop.

Professor Patricia Zimmermann teaches screen studies and is co-director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. She is an internationally recognized scholar, the author of 9 books and more than 200 articles, and currently serves as a Film Envoy for the US State Department
