What is the OT/PT Clinic?

The clinic is an educational environment that provides opportunities for students to observe, volunteer and complete some of the clinical components of their coursework. The clinic is open while classes are in session and provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to the members of Ithaca College community and Longview.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession that works with individuals through the lifespan to participate and excel in daily life activities. Occupational therapy uses daily occupations to assist individuals to excel and safely perform activities that may be limited due to cognitive, physical, social or emotional disabilities.

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession that uses a variety of techniques to restore, maintain and promote the best possible physical function. Physical therapists can help prevent/treat the onset and progression of various neuromusculoskeletal related problems.

Who can use the Clinic for OT or PT services?

Any member of the Ithaca College community (student, faculty/staff or their family member, or Longview resident) may receive services at the OT/PT Clinic. If the OT/PT clinic cannot provide you with an appointment in a timely manner, a list of area therapists will be provided.

Do I need a referral?

  • Occupational Therapy
    • To receive Occupational Therapy services, New York State law requires a referral from a licensed physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or dentist.
  • Physical Therapy
    • New York State law allows direct access to physical therapy services for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. Should it be necessary to continue physical therapy after this period, a referral is required in order to continue to receive physical therapy services.

What should I expect on my first visit?

On the day of your scheduled appointment you should plan on arriving at the OT/PT clinic 10 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork. Please wear comfortable clothing to your first appointment. Examples include sneakers and shorts for lower body extremities and a tank top or t-shirt of upper body extremities. If a referral is required for services, you must bring the referral with you to your first appointment. You should plan on one hour for the therapist to complete the evaluation and make recommendations for further visits.
