I first became interested in pursuing a degree in occupational therapy while volunteering with my high school’s Special Olympics team in Shrub Oak, NY. Through this and my own experience with chronic illness, I got involved with disability advocacy and justice work, which aligned with many of the values of occupational therapy. Ithaca College’s program stood out to me because of their emphasis on learning through experience. I also heard this region had good ice cream, which may or may not have played a role in my decision to attend this college. After graduation, I hope that I can bring a perspective focused on disability rights and justice to whatever setting I end up working in and that I am able serve my clients to the best of my ability.

During my time here, I was able to develop many friendships, take several interesting classes, and be involved in some incredible organizations! One of my favorite experiences was being a Big Sister with Tompkins County’s Big Brothers Big Sisters. I had so much fun with my little sister and felt more connected to the community outside of the college as a result.
