Mary J. Baughman

I am a graduate student in the Health Education master’s program at Ithaca College. I am originally from Rochester, NY, and attended SUNY Cortland for my bachelor’s degree in Community Health.  I chose to attend Ithaca College and pursue my passion in becoming a health educator to develop and implement strategies to improve the health of individuals and communities.  Although the program is only a year long, I have grown tremendously because of the many opportunities I have been granted at Ithaca College.

I have had the opportunity to participate in several learning experiences and make many memorable moments at Ithaca College.  Among these, I include conducting research with fellow classmates and Dr. Bajracharya, and presenting at the James J. Whalen Academic Symposium.  I also had the opportunity to apply what I have learned in the classroom to the real world such as conducting focus groups to better understand how to improve the health of the community.  While our program may have been small, it allowed me to make meaningful connections with classmates and professors that have helped me to grow as a future educator and health professional.  I look forward to applying what I have learned toward my future career.
