Recent Service Activities:

This past summer, clinical faculty member and physical therapist, Jill Mayer traveled to Malawi, Africa with a group of Ithaca College health care providers (Mary Taylor, RN, Erica Weiss, RN, Vivian Lorenzo, MD, Melissa Dhundale, MD, and Kathy Besemer, clinical laboratory supervisor). The team brought much needed medical care, supplies, and medications to 898 people across the country. This included organizing 3 mobile medical clinics in very rural areas, providing rehabilitation services to children with developmental disabilities, and caring for infants and nannies at crisis care nurseries. Further fundraising efforts and donations raised prior to the trip supported Malaria medications and testing supplies, food for orphan feeding centers, an epilepsy clinic, a nutrition clinic for infants and helped in building two shallow wells for clean water.  The trip was very successful and certainly life changing.  Dr. Mayer plans on returning following graduation in May 2017 with students as part of a 15 day study abroad program.

Physical Therapy students in Graduate Year I, Michaela Cioffredi, Angela Di Francesco, and Christina Gibble, will be presenting at Cornell for the Cancer Research Seminars on November 15th on the topic of Exercise and Cancer: Benefits, Precautions, and Advocating for Yourself
