               Dr. Paula Turkon

In regions of prehispanic Mesoamerica that do not have written calendar dates, understanding the prehispanic cultural change has been limited by imprecise tools to measure time. Dendrochronology, based on the principles that some trees grow a single ring each year, has the potential to provide dates to single year precision. This presentation shows the results of the first dendroarchaeological project in Mesoamerica to demonstrate how findings can enrich cultural understanding.
