About ENVS
Professor Susan Allen, in collaboration with Jose Lozano from the Ithaca Area Wastewater Treatment Facility, was just awarded a two-year $40,000 grant from the Park Foundation to continue her work on microplastics in the southern portion of the Cayuga Lake watershed. This research will focus on identifying important sources of microplastics; including air, sediment, snow and wastewater treatment effluent. The funds will be used to fund field work, laboratory work and undergraduate research positions.
As the coronavirus has spread throughout the country, the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) has increased dramatically, particularly for doctors and nurses who are treating patients in hospitals. In late March, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly asked any companies and individuals who are capable of producing this equipment to do so. And when he did, the Ithaca College community jumped into action, on a scale both large and small. Susan Allen, professor of environmental studies and sciences, donated a LulzBot TAZ and an Ultimaker printer. Read the full article about how the IC Community took action in IC News.
