Missed Connection at the Majors and Minors Fair?

By Sara Mallory, February 18, 2022
Learn the next steps for after the majors and minors fair, whether or not you were able to attend.

On February 15th explorers fell in love at the Majors and Minors fair! Students were given the opportunity to speak with faculty members and peers from departments across the college, as well as Career Services, Financial Services, Study Abroad, and the Office of the Registrar. On behalf of the PALs volunteering, we had a great time helping you explore but we understand you might have some further questions. Here are some resources for what to do after attending the Majors and Minors fair:

Declaring Your Major

Fell in love with a major but not sure how to pop the question?

First, make sure you check in with your academic advisor. Schedule an appointment to discuss finalizing your decision.

Students are also encouraged to reach out to faculty from the departments they’re interested in. You can ask what your 4-year-plan would look like with your prospective major. Maybe you’re interested in career or internship opportunities. Certain programs have more competitive application processes; the School of Music is audition only. You can find more information about your prospective school here.

Once you make your decision, log into IC Workflow, which you can find on apps.ithaca.edu. You will need your Netpass username and password. There, you will be able to submit the Change of Major form, found under Available Forms.

Not ready to settle down?

Don’t give up hope! Students may remain in the Exploratory Program until they have completed up to 60 credits or around the end of their sophomore year.

What can you do to keep making progress towards deciding on your major?

  • Continue taking classes that sound interesting.
  • Talk to friends and classmates about what their majors are like.
  • Go to office hours and ask professors about their fields.
  • Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor.
  • Attend events on campus and join new clubs.
  • Reach out to PALs!

Most of all, be patient and kind to yourself. You never know when love will strike you!
