Program Details
Students will spend eight and a half weeks at Ithaca College, in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Central New York, working with faculty from the Department of Mathematics on a research project in dynamical systems. Three different project areas are described below.
Project Descriptions
- Evolutionary dynamics of dispersal – Lattice models of ecological dynamics (Mentor: Dr. Ted Galanthay)
- Billiard dynamics on surfaces of revolution (Mentor: Dr. Dan Visscher)
- Pruned fractal trees – Iterated function systems with memory (Mentor: Dr. Dave Brown)
Stipend
Each student will receive a stipend of $5,100 and an allowance toward on-campus housing and meals. Partial support for moving expenses will be provided. Funds for travel to conferences are available through support from the NSF.
Who Should Apply:
The program is restricted to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, who are current undergraduate students enrolled in a program leading to a bachelor's or associate's degree in mathematics or similar discipline, and who will be undergraduate students in the fall semester of 2023. Students from underrepresented groups, including women, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selection Details:
Preference will be given to students who have completed introductory multivariable calculus and linear algebra.
