  • Beth Ellen Clark Joseph awarded $2.7 Million for the OSIRIS REx project.
  • Michael "Bodhi" Rogers and Matthew Price (along with the departments of mathematics and education) awarded $1.2 Million from NSF to establish the Ithaca College Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship Program.

2010-2011

  • Luke Keller spends his sabbatical leave working on the NASA funded SOFIA project.
  • Michael "Bodhi" Rogers travels to Cyprus to image Late Bronze Age cities using archaeogeophysics.
  • Michael "Bodhi" Rogers is the visiting faculty member at the Ithaca College London Center.

2009-2010

  • Bruce Thompson is the visiting faculty member at the Ithaca College London Center. 

2008-2009

  • Beth Ellen Clark Joseph spends a sabbatical leave semester in France.
  • Andrew Crouse (physics education researcher) joins the department as a one-year sabbatical leave replacement with the intent for continuing in this position.
  • Matthew Price (astronomy education researcher) joins the department in a three-year position that supports the addition of the BS in Physics degree.
  • Luke Keller is promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure.
  • Michael "Bodhi" Rogers is promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure.

2007-2008

  • Beth Ellen Clark Joseph is awarded the All-College Excellence in Scholarship Award
  • Bruce Thompson is promoted to Associate Professor and receives Tenure.
  • The BS in Physics degree is approved and three graduating students earn this degree.

2006-2007

  • Beth Ellen Clark Joseph is promoted to Associate Professor and receives Tenure.

2006

  • Michael "Bodhi" Rogers is awarded the All-College Excellence in Teaching Award
  • The Peformance-based Physics classroom is constructed.

2005

  • Matthew C. Sullivan joins the department, replacing Charles Spencer.

2003

  • Charles Spencer retires and moves to Hawaii.
  • Luke Keller and Michael Rogers join the department, replacing John Schwartz and Peter Seligmann.

2002

  • John Schwartz retires (but stays on as a part-time instructor) and Peter Seligmann passes away suddenly.

2002

  • Bruce Thompson (physics department instructor since spring of 1995) becomes a full-time member of the department, replacing Paulen Smith.

2001

  • Beth Clark Joseph replaces Ahren Sadoff as a full-time member of the department.

1998

  • Dan Briotta oversees the opening of the Clinton B Ford Observatory and the installation of its new CCT-16, 0.4m f/8 Cassegrain telescope manufactured by DFM Engineering.

1996

  • Randy McKee leaves the department and is not replaced reducing the number of full-time faculty from seven to six.

1992

  • The New Science Building (now called the Center for Natural Sciences) opens for business.

1989

  • George Nickas leaves and is replaced by Randy McKee.

1985

  • George Nickas replaces Murray Steinberg.

1983

  • Murray Steinberg leaves the department.

1982

  • Dan Briotta joins the physics department.

1973

  • Charles Spencer becomes the fifth member of the department.

1971

  • Peter Seligmann joins the team.

1969

  • John Schwartz becomes the fourth member of the physics department.

1968

  • Murray Steinberg joins the department.

1967

  • Paulen Smith becomes the second member of the department.

1965

  • Ahren Sadoff, the founder of the Department of Physics, joins the Ithaca College faculty.
