The Front of House (or Theatre Administration) assistants perform several functions within the B.S. Theatre Administration degree program and the production season, including (but not limited to): running and maintaining the Ithaca College Theatre Box Office, located in Dillingham Center, assisting B.S. Theatre Administration degree program faculty with various administrative tasks, and other tasks as assigned.

Given the broad scope of this role, we hire for strengths in the following focuses:

  • Box Office/Front of House
  • Marketing Design
  • Area Coordination

However, students may be asked to accomplish tasks across all areas and will be expected to complete their tasks to the highest caliber.

On your application, please specify your focus preferences in order of priority. If you do not state your preferences, Theatre Administration faculty will assign based on your experience. 

Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to:
    • students majoring in B.S. Theatre Arts Management or B.S. Theatre Administration with Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing
    • students who have successfully passed THEA 25100 Theatre Organization & Management and THEA 25000 Promotions & Publicity for the Performing Arts for the Performing Arts
    • students who have previous box office and/or house management experience with competency in Tessitura
  • Must be available to work 5-10 hours per week between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., including but not limited to weekly day shifts and performance shifts that may extend beyond stated time frame
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Desire to work with patronage of a theatre organization
  • Comfortability with graphic design software and programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, or Canvas
  • Patience with others
  • Demonstration of attention to detail

Duties and Responsibilities:

Box Office/Front of House Focus

  • Acquiring and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of:
    • Selling tickets using the Tessitura ticketing system
    • Box Office and Center for Theatre and Dance policies and procedures
    • Details of Ithaca College Theatre productions (type, authors, relevant personnel, etc)
    • Theatre seating maps
    • Directions to Dillingham Center and on-site parking solutions
    • Ticket scanning for hard tickets, print-at-home tickets, and tickets e-mailed to digital services
    • Ithaca College website
  • Resolve problems that arise during day and performance shifts, including but not limited to:
    • Patron ticket problems and issues
    • Box Office student staff problems and issues
    • Computer hardware and software
  • Reconcile shift cashier reports and troubleshoot discrepancies
  • Protect and steward Box Office space, including but not limited to:
    • limiting access to box office to appropriate box office staff
    • guard cash and safe
    • respect confidentiality

Marketing Design Focus

  • Conceptualize and create design materials for the Theatre Administration area, including but not limited to:
    • Marketing collateral for Ithaca College Theatre productions
    • Front of House signage for House Management and Box Office
    • Opening Night Reception invitations
    • Other design collateral as requested

Area Coordination Focus

  • Acquiring and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of:
    • Theatre Administration Practicum
    • Theatre Administration program policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and create materials for weekly TAM program meetings
    • Weekly meeting agendas
    • Assigning meeting leaders and minute-takes
  • Coordinate with TAM faculty to assess theatre administration students' comprehension on:
    • Front o House policies and procedures
    • Seating Maps
    • Ithaca College Theatre Productions
  • Resolves problems or issues that arise with Theatre Administration resources site
  • Proofread meeting minutes drafts and other program documents
  • Complete, distribute, and file documents and forms correctly
