Flute Audition Requirements - Undergraduate

Degree Page: Composition (BM)

Note: Audition only required for instrumental emphasis (private lesson) consideration

  1. Two works of contrasting style
  2. Major and harmonic minor scales in two octaves; chromatic scale (from C to C) in three octaves
  3. Sight-reading

Degree Page: Music (BA)

  1. Two works of contrasting style
  2. Major and harmonic minor scales in two octaves; chromatic scale (from C to C) in three octaves
  3. Sight-reading

Degree Page: Music Education (BM)

  1. Two works of contrasting style
  2. Major and harmonic minor scales in two octaves; chromatic scale (from C to C) in three octaves
  3. Sight-reading

Degree Page: Music in Combination with an Outside Field (BM)

  1. Two works of contrasting style
  2. Major and harmonic minor scales in two octaves; chromatic scale (from C to C) in three octaves

Degree Page: Performance (BM)

  1. One complete major work -- a concerto, sonata, or suite (all movements prepared)
  2. Two smaller works (or movements from a major work) of contrasting styles to each other and the complete major work

Flute Audition Requirements - Graduate

Degree Page: Music Education (MM, MS) 

Prepare the following for a 15-minute audition:

  1. Elements of technical preparation such as scales and arpeggios.
  2. One complete sonata, concerto, or suite.
  3. Two or three additional works representing various periods of standard repertoire (Baroque, Classic, Romantic, or Contemporary). These may be single movements of longer works.

  • Chaminade Concertino
  • Enesco Cantabile and Presto

  • Katherine Hoover Kokopelli
  • Katherine Hoover Winter Spirits
  • Piazzolla Tango Etude No. 4
All Other Undergraduate Degrees: Two works of contrasting style comparable to:
  • Mozart Concerto in G Major or D Major
