Trombone Audition Requirements

Trombone Audition Requirements - Undergraduate

Degree Page: Composition (BM)

 Note: Audition only required for instrumental emphasis (private lesson) consideration

  1. Prepared Solo Piece(s)
  2. Scales
  3. Sight-Reading (optional)

Degree Page: Jazz Studies (BM)

Note: All students must complete both a jazz and classical audition. 

Classical Audition

  1. Two contrasting solo works or contrasting sections within a single work
  2. All major scales from memory
  3. Sight-reading

Jazz Audition

  1. Be prepared to perform a blues selection, jazz standard, and ballad. Please choose selections from the provided list (below). For each selection, perform the head, solo once over the form, return to the head, and end accordingly. Instrumental jazz studies applicants must also sing the melody of one of their prepared pieces.

Double Bass Audition Requirements - Graduate

Degree Page: Music Education (MM, MS)

Prepare the following for a 15-minute audition:

  1. Elements of technical preparation such as scales and arpeggios.
  2. One complete sonata, concerto, or suite.
  3. Two or three additional works representing various periods of standard repertoire (Baroque, Classic, Romantic, or Contemporary). These may be single movements of longer works.
