Do advisors know students on a more personal level or can I expect for them not to remember my name?
Your question of whether an advisor will know your first name is a great one! This really depends on the effort that you put in to getting to know them – utilizing office hours, meeting them more often than just to review course scheduling, etc. The more you invest in creating a relationship with your advisor, the better!
You are encouraged to visit with your faculty advisor every so often to ask questions about the major, your academic plans and career paths, etc. If for any reason you don’t feel connected to your advisor, you can request a change in advisor. This process is handled by the Dean’s office in the School in which your major is housed.
