Creating Confidence

Monday, June 14th, 12pm-1pm EST

Creating Confidence
Presented by Tina VanSteenbergen

Confidence has long been an expectation of women. And because we’re just supposed to have it, we often speak about it as if it is easy: “Just be confident!” It doesn’t work that way! With the pressures put on us as women in college—class, work, volunteering, studying, trying to stay healthy—how could we possibly, simply “be confident”? Confidence is a journey, a long and at times treacherous hike.  One with hills, valleys, twists, turns, and no map. While it’s not easy, finding authentic confidence is possible—if we work as a team.

Enhancing Positive Body Image

Thursday, June 17th, 7pm-8pm EST

Enhancing Positive Body Image
Presented by Tina VanSteenbergen

Women are made to feel like their bodies are never good enough.  The billion-dollar diet industry exists to make women feel like garbage about themselves for having a cookie. Women’s bodies are talked about more than the women who live in them. And we know that that is incredibly unfair and unhealthy, especially for young women.  Women deserve to look in the mirror and not feel like shit about themselves. And to learn real, practical ways to talk to each other about our bodies.

Mentorship comes in various forms and has been proven to contribute to success in the workplace. However, many womxn face unique challenges when it comes to securing a professional mentor, particularly womxn whose identities intersect with additional underserved populations. Consequently, womxn are less likely to have a mentor who could provide invaluable work and life advice, support and advocacy for securing jobs and promotions, etc. In this session we’ll explore strategies for finding professional mentors you feel comfortable with, how to make “the ask,” maintaining the relationships, and even being a mentor yourself!
