Statement from the BOLD Women of Ithaca College

Dear Ithaca College community,

The BOLD Scholars at Ithaca College are outraged by the continued acts of police brutality and systemic racism that is affecting Black lives. We mourn the lives of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, and the many names that are left unknown and forgotten without justice.

Black lives matter. All Black lives matter!

We need to stand up, utilize our voices, use our platforms and resources to advocate for change. Institutional racism and white supremacy are deeply ingrained in our social realities. It exists in our government, police forces, healthcare systems, educational systems and beyond. We recognize that to be silent is to be complacent with racial violence. The work starts within.

We urge you to start making a change by educating yourself, your families, and peers. Donate to organizations aimed at uplifting Black communities, reach out to government officials, sign petitions, and participate in protests if you can. Put action towards changing the systems of racism and biases that exist in institutions of education and workplace environments.

Please remember to take care of yourself while practicing collective care for your communities.

To hold ourselves accountable, we will use our platform on social media to highlight further resources surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement. We will be collaborating with organizations and individuals that are already doing the work of demanding systemic change.

Thank you to everyone who supports this statement and has chosen to stand in unity with us.

In Solidarity,

The Bold Women of Ithaca College
