Individual Therapy

Any enrolled student can make an appointment for an initial consultation with a counselor to assess clinical needs and to identify appropriate resources in a confidential caring, one-to-one setting. At your initial consultation appointment, additional individual counseling sessions at CAPS might be one of the services recommended.

Our brief individual therapy model focuses on personal strengths and identifying solutions to challenging times. Session lengths may range from 15 minute check-ins to 30 or 45 minute appointments. Sessions can be conducted both in-person and through Telehealth meetings.  Our policy is for Initial Consultations to be conducted in person even if the intention is for further sessions to be held  through Telehealth.

Students who want or need more frequent or longer-term therapy are referred to trusted off-campus clinicians. Our off-campus referrals page has information about what to expect in this process. Occasionally, exceptions are made for clinical reasons, in consultation with staff supervisors.

Checking in for Your Individual Therapy Sessions

  • Accessing your CAPS portal will allow you to view or cancel an existing appointment, retrieve your secure Zoom link for telehealth appointments, and to complete any short surveys you might have.
  • If you are 10-minutes late to any appointment without making prior arrangements, you may be asked to reschedule.
  • For in-person sessions, please follow the health precautions posted on the door before entering our waiting area.
