Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 9th. One way to honor mom on Mother's Day is by serving a special Mother's Day breakfast or brunch.  A little creativity can make the day extra special for mom. 

A brunch menu filled with both sweet and savory breakfast foods could include an egg dish, bacon or sausage, muffins and fresh fruit.  Breakfast casseroles are a good choice since many breakfast casserole recipes can be assembled the night before.

When planning brunch, ask other family members to bring a simple dish to pass to add variety to the buffet table.  Mimosas, which are one part champagne and one part orange juice can be offered but be sure to offer non alcoholic drinks as well.  A nice touch is to serve mimosas in champagne flutes.

Carnations are a traditional Mother's Day flower which can complete the setting.  Place a single pink carnation on a breakfast tray or a bouquet of carnations as part of the centerpiece for a brunch buffet.  Using a pretty tablecloth and cloth napkins while serving brunch on the good china will add just the right amount of elegance to make any mother feel extra special on her day.

Be sure to take a lot of family pictures to build memories and besides the guest of honor, show appreciation to all the mothers who attend brunch by sending a carnation home with each and every one to make them feel special.

During brunch, go around the table and ask each guest to share something about motherhood.  This could be anything: a fond memory of your mother from when you were a child, your most profound moment when becoming a mother yourself, or some advice from another mother that changed your life.  Don’t forget to honor the special moms who are no longer with us.
