Preparing yourself for meeting

How faculty advisors can prepare for the advising session

  • Look at the student’s record and advising sheet (see above) to identify potential challenges

  • Familiarize yourself with how you and your advisee can share your screens in Zoom using this video

  • If your program has sequences of classes that need to be taken in order, gather advice from your chair about how to help students who have deferred or are returning from leave get into the sequence.

  • The IC Resources website is a single stop for accessing the most popular resources related to health and wellness, academic success and student engagement. It is helpful for students, their supporters and faculty.

  • Navigating Ithaca College is a single reference document specifically created for faculty to quickly locate and refer students to the correct resource.

  • The Skill-Building Library is a collection of links to documents and videos that was crowdsourced by students this summer to help each other cultivate time management and study skills as the need for them becomes evident.

  • Every student enrolled full time in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 is entitled to three free credits of coursework in the Winter, May or Summer term at Ithaca College. More information can be found here.

  • Students may use these three credits all at once, break them up among these three sessions, or apply the three free credits on a four credit course.

  • Registration for winter term opens on November 9 then runs concurrently with spring registration

  • Familiarize yourself with winter term offerings in Homer Connect, especially in your discipline and ICC eligible courses, so you can advise students for ways to catch up or get ahead, given the impact of the remote learning environment.
