Bio

Joseph Christian Ungco, OTD, OTR/L (they/them/he/him) is a queer person of color who holds Bachelor’s degrees in Linguistics, Philosophy and completed their Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California. Clinically, Dr. Ungco has practiced primarily with older adults in their homes and communities. They are passionate about queer health, social justice, and equity, and focus their professional & scholarly work on intersectional, responsive and inclusive care. They provide consultation, education, and training in these areas at local and national levels.

Dr. Ungco teaches courses on clinical management, geriatric practice, group process, research, and sexuality, gender & intimacy. They serve in several roles for diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives, including serving as co-chair of the national Network for LGBTQIA+ Concerns in Occupational Therapy and sitting on the Executive Council for the OT Multicultural, Diversity & Inclusion (MDI) National Network. Dr. Ungco’s work is centered on amplifying the voices of those most impacted by systems of oppression.
